"Tibetans" became a hotspot soon after the riot in Lhasa revealed by the international medias. I learned this while I was browsing the forum of Surrey-CSSA. Far beyond my imagination, discussion about this has been brought up to a very serious level. There is a handful of western countries hint at boycott Beijing Olympic openning ceremonies over Tibet issue, some are even yelling boycotting the whole game. ( What the hell? )
Later when I read the report of interviewing with 14th Dalai Lama from "globe and mail", a mass of comments left below the news report nearly took my breath away. I was shocked about hundreds of thousands of comments blaming Chinese government, and their words made me sick because they are sustaining Tibet to go independent. I consider what they are doing is the meddling of so-called democracy in the internal affairs of China. However, those evil western communities just never shut their mouths.
It is very clear that most western people are expecting the Tibetans rebellion to overwhelm Chinese government, so therefore, they might have more excuses to bring shame on us. Togethered with the Tibet sovereignty argument, other sensitive political issues, such as Chinese human rights, Chinese-made products and food problems, and the extremely communist style in the control of the media, are put forth.
As a Chinese, I truly appreciate the huge improvement made by the government in recent years. China has a huge population, it is not easy for the government to maintain and develop a country where around 1.4 billion people are living in. The reality, that everyone could definitely perceive is, China is stable and people’s lifes are becoming better and better. In my opinion, up to now, the performance of Chinese government is outstanding, and I don't think any other government in the world could achieve this. So why the world does not give China more support, understanding or help instead of blaming and yelling? The only reason I could figure out is "jealousy". Western people who hold strong prejudice against China will just cudgel their brains for blemishing the credibility and repution of Chinese government.
The problem here is, the protest in Tibet was both violent and involved rampage, burning of shops, buildings, cars and beating non-Tibetan civilians to death. How could those western peopel ignore this fact but keep throwing stones at Chinese government? Some mention that young Tibetans are living under oppressiveness and brutality, others describe how people of Tibet are crying our for justice and freedom.
For example, one comment states "... ... fifty years of brutal oppression and cultural genocide at the hands of the Chinese fascists, some Tibetans have concluded that risking their lives for their country is a worthwhile step. All previous efforts to seek a return to independence have been crushed by violent Chinese imperialism. And the Chinese have flooded the country with ethnic Chinese in a cultural genocide. So a few protesters, have broken windows and beat up some of these ethnic Chinese who have come in to steal their land ... ... " Which implies, the deaths of non-Tibetan civilians in this riot should be the comeuppance for Chinese government. How ridiculous !!
I have to say I've never heard of any bad things about how the government treats Tibetans before, and those people who made such comments should never undestand the background of Tibet that has slave society system 50 years ago. Tibetans use human beings' skins to draw pictures, skulls to drink alcohol. Only monks have a OK life and all the other people are not treated as human beings at all. Chinese government wipes off the slave system, spends a lot of money to build the facilities and temples for them and provids them free educations. Etc. Dalai Lama always complains about Chinese government, why he didn't talk any thing about the modern systems he wants to keep?
Let's maintain this great statement __
Tibet was, is and will always be part of China!
